Wendell Motel
Click to make larger! My grandfather, Frederick Wendell (1898-1979), owned and operated this Motel (and other commercial property), in Long Beach, California. Tami and I stopped by on November 5th, 1977, after it had been under new ownership for awhile... My grandfather's brother (my Great-Uncle Russ Wendell) created the Big DoNut and Pup 'N' Taco Drive-Ups. Click Here for more Pup 'N' Taco and Big DoNut pix and info...

Knee injury while skiing:
On March 07, 2009 while skiing down from Grizzly Gulch I hit a patch of rock under some freshly fallen snow. I drove myself down to Kaiser Permanente's after-hours clinic (where I've always received fantastic care for a very reasonable price - no, I don't own stock in Kaiser nor do I have any family or friends who work there!) where they cleaned me up, inserted seven sutures, and sent me on my way.

Helicopter Rides!
I had the good fortune, twice, to be invited on some military helicopter rides with Larry Trevaskis. These shots were taken from our September 9, 2000 flights in and around Fort Carson, Colorado. The pilots and crew treated me and the other guests really well and we all had a great day of it - including some gunnery stuff, letting us play with night vision equipment, and eating those MRE ("Meals Ready to Eat") rations they serve troops in the field!! Actually, even though I've been a vegetarian for many years, I was given a great MRE that included spaghetti and other good stuff that was at least as good as anytning you can by at a fast-food joint. Also, my meal had this nifty little chemical package that super-heated my meal without the use of matches or fire!
